It’s here
Warhammer 40k 8th Edition is finally available for pre-order. Games Workshop’s signature line began in 1987 and the miniatures game has been a fixture in the hobby ever since.  The heavily revised edition includes new factions, play variants, books, dice, player aids and even a new look to the immutable Space Marines.  The extensive revision is expected to experience heavy demand on the market, to put it mildly.

A game for the Aegean
Z-Man Games is releasing a revised edition of Akrotiri, the tile-laying game of adventure searching for ancient Greek temples and acquiring the resources to fund your expedition.  Based on feedback from the first edition, the new design improves on many issues and the competitive 2-player strategy affair may now play up to four, with two copies of the game.

How do Vikings divide up the plunder?
Spoils of War is now available for pre-order from Arcane Wonders.  This may not be how the Norse really did it – I don’t know – but players will bid with secret dice rolls trying to collect sets of cards for points in this quickly moving and competitive design.

Renegade Play Kits
Consider yourself a pro at Renegade Game Studios hot deck-builder Clank?  Or do you just really like the game? This summer, the publisher is releasing official event kits to interested local game stores.  They include special promos, winner promos and a Golden Dragon meeple. We here at iSlaytheDragon gleefully endorse Golden Dragons.  Yes, a dragon can be gleeful.  Just go along with me, or I’ll burn your village down…

Mecha Kaiju
Legendary and Universal Pictures wants to get the Pacific Rim brand out in a big way! As part of granting a plethora of licensing deals, River Horse Games is slated to produce a “line of collectible board games and role playing games” featuring the Mechs-on-Kaiju battles.  River Horse has experience already with a few other intellectual properties and the design chops of Warhammer 40k, so it sounds like a promising fit.

A novel idea
Jason Holt, rules writer for Czech Games Edition, has written a novel set in Vlaada Chvátil’s raucous Galaxy Trucker world. Galaxy Trucker: Rocky Road is a humorous story about a woman and an alien delivering a load of, what else? Sewer pipes. Available now in North America and the rest of the universe next month!

I have lots of kids. Board games help me connect with them, while still retaining my sanity...relatively speaking.
