We’re just over a week away from Rogue One, so that means my Twitter feed is going to increase in its Star-Wars-related tweets. This includes my Star-Wars-related game play as well.

New from Iello
Dice Tower News offered a look at a few new Iello games coming in 2017, including The Legend of Windigo, Pyramids, and the Cthulhu monster pack for King of Tokyo and King of New York. “These monster packs will come with a standee, player board, and evolution cards for both Tokyo and New York. Cthulhu also comes with several cultist tokens and a double-sided temple presumably used in conjunction with his unique set of evolution cards.”

According to the Cool Mini or Not website, “Chern Ann Ng, CEO of CMON Limited, explains, ‘We began laying the groundwork for this to happen in 2014, and this monumental achievement would not have been possible without the herculean efforts of the CMON family and outstanding support from the tabletop gaming community at large.’”

Star Trek Attack Wing
According to ICv2.com, WizKids is revamping Star Trek Attack Wing, revising its rules and introducing faction packs. “Each faction pack will include a fleet of ships that will allow new players to field a team from the same faction, and also offer a lower-priced way to acquire a fleet for existing players. Lone Wolf
Sad news from the guardian.com: Joe Dever, author of the Lone Wolf series of game books, passed away last week. “He first created the fictional world of Magnamund in 1977 as a setting for his Dungeons & Dragons campaigns. In 1984, he released the first book of the Lone Wolf series of young-adult gamebooks which sold over 11.5million copies worldwide.”

Colony
Calvin Wong interviewed Ted Alspach over on dinganddentcast.com, discussing Colony and his other recent games. “Colony is more obviously an engine building game than Suburbia. In Suburbia there’s more of a spatial element – you have adjacencies to think about, and then when the tile is locked off it’s not going to interact with anything else – unless it’s like an airport or a restaurant. In Colony you always have all your cards to work with – oh this card is going to give me a five every turn, so I can work towards a strategy that makes that work.”

Feudum
Good interview with Mark Swanson about Kickstarter and his game Feudum. “Make sure your game is full play tested. Make sure the art is fully polished! Make sure your community is built-up to a modest degree before you unveil your game on the world. Never neglect your community. … Apologize for your mistakes. Be patient with fans and backers. Customers are your brand’s most valuable asset.”

World Chess Championship
Magnus Carlsen retained his World Chess Championship title for the third time with a dramatic come-from-behind win over Sergey Karjakin. After drawing all but two of the 12 regulation games, they played a tiebreaker of four rapid games (each player gets 25 minutes to complete his moves). The win was completed in dramatic fashion, as Carlsen sacrificed his queen to “ensnare Karjakin’s king in a mating net, a coup de grâce all the more breathtaking given the faster time control of rapid play. ‘It was the kind of move every chess player dreams about getting a chance to make,’ commentator Maurice Ashley [said]. ‘That move will be remembered forever.’”
