Whether or not you’re enjoying time off today for gaming and/or hanging out with your loved ones, I hope we can all take time to remember Dr. Martin Luther King.
Renegade Game Studios has announced the first expansion to Clank! In the underwater setting of Clank: Sunken Treasures, “Players will explore two partially flooded maps with new Dungeon Deck cards, a new persistent monster to defeat, new environmental challenges, and more as they venture in the watery depths.”
The digital version of Mysterium is now available for iOS, Android, and PC, according to Asmodee. Like the original board game, players “[t]ravel back to the 1920s and uncover the mystery surrounding a suspicious death in Warwick Manor. Interpret visions sent by the victim’s ghost and attempt to close the investigation – or embody the ghost and communicate with the mediums through abstract images.”
New From Gamewright
Plenty of new games were recently announced by Gamewright. “The music starts with Cha-Cha Chihuahua – a preschool game featuring a pack of peppy dancing pups; and continues with a taste of Go Nuts for Donuts! – a pastry-picking card game where high score is sweet victory. Players will party on with Think n’ Sync – a mind melding hilarious party game. Additional highlights include a new 9-cube set of Rory’s Story Cubes and the relaunch of three Gamewright greatest hits: PDQ, Loot, and Tiki Topple.”
Part two of Renegade Game Studios’ look back at 2016, including their visit to Tabletop to watch Wil Wheaton and guests play Lanterns: The Harvest Festival. They also detail their experiences at Origins, Gen Con, and other industry events. “[A] nice thing about Gen Con is that it brings the whole Renegade team together. Throughout the year we are all working on many different projects but at a con we can get in some really quality play testing and development.”
Pillars of the Earth
Pillars of the Earth, the game based on Ken Follett’s novel, will be back in print at the end of 2017/start of 2018, according to boardgamegeek.com.
More news from boardgamegeek.com, courtesy of W. Eric Martin. The Terraforming Mars expansion, Hellas & Elysium, is due in June from Stronghold Games, while Matagot Games teased the expansion Captain Sonar: Upgrade 1, with no release date set.
Green Ronin Games
According to ACD Distribution, three new games are coming from Green Ronin Publishing: next month we’ll see Freeport Bestiary, then in April, Love 2 Hate: Comics, Mutants & Masterminds: Campaign Settings: Freedom City, and Blue Rose: Narrator’s Kit.
According to ICv2.com, Grail Games will be re-publishing two out-of-print Reiner Knizia games in the middle of this year: King’s Road and Stephenson’s Rocket.
Kickstarter Tabletop on the Rise
Kickstarter reported that backers pledged $113 million to tabletop game projects in 2016, reports ICv2.com. “That represents a 28% growth rate over last year’s $88.9 million in pledges … Tabletop games projects had a 55% success rate on Kickstarter.”
Analog Versus Digital
I liked this look at popular board games and their digital counterparts. “[S]ometimes the small screen of the monitor, tablet or phone must suffice to give your tabletop fix.”
