Happy New Year! I hope your 2016 is off to a fantastic start. My wife and I played La Isla on New Year’s Eve and we played it again to begin the new year. Based on the tweets of those of you who answered “What is the first board game you played in 2016?”, this will be an awesome year on the tabletop.

New Year, New Rules
Fantasy Flight Games released new tournament rules for its games, including Warhammer 40,000 Conquest, Star Wars Armada, Android: Netrunner, and more. All went into effect as of January 1st.

Full Steam Ahead
I’m always on the lookout for a good solo game. The second edition of Nemo’s War has been funded on Kickstarter and it’s starting to reach its stretch goals.

Collected Developers
Co-founder of a startup company in Central Massachusetts has formed a collective among local board game developers.

Silicon Tabletop
Not everyone in the Silicon Valley is in the tech industry, as seen in this piece on the former Adobe product manager who now leads Bezier Games.

Solo Tribe
Days of Wonder released an official solo variant for Five Tribes. The pdf can be downloaded here.

Booty Maker
Here’s a feature article on Alex Cobian, creator of Booty.

  1. Great article! As to my first game for 2016, was actually finishing a game we started an hour earlier in 2015: Kingsburg, which I lost by 1 VP as my girlfriend had an Embassy!

Nemo’s War: looks fascinating, but a bit more involved than necessary.

Looks to be a great year ahead for the gaming community!

    Cheers,
    Joe
