All Apologies
I remember the Dungeons & Dragons scare back in the 80s, which led to the hilariously-bad-yet-awesome Mazes and Monsters TV movie starring Tom Hanks. D&D is still owed an apology by the media, according to David Ewalt, the author of D&D creator Gary Gygax’s biography. Read the article at Wired, which includes a history of D&D on the Geek’s Guide to the Galaxy podcast.
Starting Young
Not only is this second grader learning how to code, but she and her family have also created a board game.
Awakened
I tried my best not to get caught up in the Episode VII hype, but I needed my fix of a galaxy far, far away and bought the Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures game. After a few run-throughs, I added the expansion ships as well as Star Wars Armada and Star Wars Imperial Assault to my Must Buy List. Here’s a nice overview of the three main Star Wars games available now. Is it December 18th yet?
Lifetime Gamer
This professor published the classic war game Britannia, met his wife through D&D, and still games with his students nearly every week.
Rolling the Bones
An engineer’s curiosity was piqued by the dice of times past; not the polyhedral variety, but the actual animal bones used by gamers centuries ago. He used 3D printing to make these ancient dice.
