Cosmic Encounter 42nd Anniversary Edition
Hitting the shelves in the third quarter of this year is Cosmic Encounter 42nd Anniversary Edition. According to the Fantasy Flight Games website it will be compatible with all existing Cosmic Encounter expansions, has new translucent pieces, and includes “a freshly revised rulebook and a beautifully illustrated Quick-start Guide that captures the nostalgia of the original game and makes it easy for anyone to learn.”

Spring Meadow
Uwe Rosenberg’s third game in his tile-laying trilogy (after Cottage Garden and Indian Summer) Spring Meadow is set for a July debut, according to W. Eric Martin. On his BGG blog he quotes Edition Spielwiese’s Michael Schmitt: “Spring Meadow is the most strategic game of the trilogy as it allows the players to go for either a short-term or a long-term strategy. The first player who wins two scorings (and thereby earns two hiking pins) wins, so there is a trade-off between an early game rush or the preparation for later scoring advantages.”

Expanding Clank! In! Space!
Renegade Game Studios announced the first expansion to Clank! In! Space!, Apocalypse! From the exclamation-point-filled web page: “Thwart the efforts of Lord Eradikus! Reap the rewards of noble (and perhaps reluctant) heroism! Save the galaxy … And get rich in the process! Maybe you can avert the Apocalypse! (Or at least escape with the treasure while someone else does!)” It can be pre-ordered now and is available for pick up at Gen Con or Essen.

Terminated
Space Goat Productions recently launched a Wefunder for equity in their company, after they raised nearly $1 million for Evil Dead 2 and Terminator 2 board games that never shipped to Kickstarter backers. Rich Johnston of Bleeding Cool wrote that the “attempt to get additional funding has failed. WeFunder raised just over $3,000 from 13 investors, rather than the $250,000 to $1 million they were aiming for.” According to Johnston, CEO Shon Bury “stated in the comments that if they didn’t get the money, half of which would go towards funding the completion of such projects, then Space Goat would in all likelihood shut down.”

Cthulhu: Death May Die
Coming soon to Kickstarter is Cthulhu: Death May Die, a collaboration between Eric Lang and Rob Daviau. According to the CMON website: “As each Chapter begins, the investigation has been completed, the ritual is underway, and the clock is ticking down until one of the Great Old Ones arrives and makes their presence known. The very mention of these ancient beings is enough to drive a person mad, and it should come as no surprise that the Investigators start the game insane.”

Marvel Strike Teams
According to ICv2.com, WizKids will be releasing Marvel Strike Teams, a game based on its HeroClix miniatures, this October. “[O]ne player becomes a criminal mastermind, running the villains and overseeing the game in a way similar to the game master of a role playing game. Each of the other players takes on the role of their favorite Marvel hero, working together to thwart the mastermind’s plot. The heroes are represented in the game with HeroClix style figures, featuring the now-familiar Clix bases, but these new heroes will NOT be compatible with the HeroClix collectible miniatures games. The new game is mission based, with the heroes trying to achieve their objectives before the villains can.”

X-Wing Second Edition
Fantasy Flight Games previewed the combat mechanism for its upcoming X-Wing Second Edition. “[T]he addition of Force powers adds new dimensions to the game, giving you even more strategic options. … [H]aving Force charges to modify your dice affects how you think about the maneuvers you perform and the actions you take. But your Force charges become even more useful when you outfit your Force-sensitive pilots with Force upgrade cards.”

September Releases from Steve Jackson Games
Munchkin Side Quests, Illuminati, Blob Lobber, and SPANC will be out this September. According to the Steve Jackson Games website, the titles are “a spin on a classic, a new edition of a veteran in our lineup, a classic reprint, and a brand-new dexterity game.”

Digital Among the Stars
Dice Tower News reports that Cublo Games has released the digital version of Among the Stars for iOS and Android. “The digital game features a single player campaign where players can face AI opponents with 2 levels. There is also a 3-4 player, asynchronous network multiplayer game with push notifications, and a local multiplayer (pass & play) option. It features over 120 cards, 8 races, 8 objectives, achievements and leader boards, and an in-game tutorial and manual.”
