One day I’ll make it to Gen Con. Until then, I can always count on GenCan’t for a fun and unique gaming experience.

Star Wars: Legion
Lots of big news from Gen Con, including the Fantasy Flight Games announcement of Star Wars: Legion, a new two-player miniatures game that “puts you in command on a war-torn battlefield of the Galactic Civil War. While innovative mechanics simulate the chaos of battle and the fog of war, thirty-three unpainted and easily assembled miniatures give you a blank slate to paint and create a truly unique army.” It will be available early next year.

More Fireball
Restoration Games is bringing back the beloved classic Fireball Island. According to polygon.com, the new version, Fireball Island: The Curse of Vul-Kar “will continue the original’s story, with the game itself designed by Rob Daviau, J.R. Honeycutt and Justin Jacobson.”

Twilight Imperium Fourth Edition
A fourth edition of Twilight Imperium will hit shelves later this year, according to Fantasy Flight Games. The classic game “in which three to six players take on the role of one of seventeen factions vying for galactic domination through military might, political maneuvering, and economic bargaining” has been updated into the “most refined version of the game ever released.”

New Civilization
Another new edition of a classic: Sid Meier’s Civilization: A New Dawn will be available from Fantasy Flight Games at the end of this year. “A New Dawn stays true to its origins in the Sid Meier’s Civilization video game series by challenging players with tactical decisions for how they plan to take over the world. Do they wish to become the world’s richest nation, harvesting resources and trading with allies? Or perhaps they prefer to rule through military conquest, trampling their rivals into the dust?”

Dragon’s Hoard
Renegade Game Studios’ Dragon Hoard will be released this October. According to the ACD Distribution blog, “each player plays a dragon hunting for treasure. Collect chromatic sheep from the farmer’s fields and use them to acquire marvelous treasures … Other players will send angry mobs and wizards your way to stop you. Defend yourself and battle your way to riches.”

Photosynthesis
On his BGG blog W. Eric Martin gave a preview of Photosynthesis from the European division of Blue Orange Games: “Everything about the graphic design is inviting and joyous, yet you’re all meant to embody cruel nature, block everyone else from the light, and see them shrivel to nothing in the forest while you reign as the oakest with the mostest.”

Best Treehouse Ever: Forest of Fun
Eddie Guida at Dice Tower News wrote about Forest of Fun, the upcoming expansion for Best Treehouse Ever. The game “can be mixed with the original game, giving more variety as well as increasing the possible player count up to 8. But this can also be played on it’s own with 2 to 4 players and features some new mechanics not present in the first game.”

Painting Tools in the Cosmetic Aisle
For the miniatures painters among us, check out this article by Teri Litorco on finding hobby tools in the cosmetic aisle. “Hairspray is the ultimate masking product, which is particularly useful when you want to create weathering effects. You can create a pretty impressive weathered/rust effect by painting a mix of metallic and rust colours as an undercoat, spraying that layer with some hairspray.”

Legal Battle Over Board Game
Sad story about a game designer who didn’t live to see his game released — or the ensuing legal battle between his mother and his best friend.
