Happy New Year! Let’s make this the best year of board gaming ever. Join me in taking on the BGG 10×10 Challenge (play 10 games 10 times each) this year!

Honshu
According to ACD Distribution, next month Renegade Game Studios is releasing Honshu, a “map-building card game set in feudal Japan. Players are lords and ladies of noble houses seeking new lands and opportunities for fame and fortune.”

Stockpiled
Loved this: a game store in Virginia a Dead of Winter-themed event that allowed players to donate canned and nonperishable food to purchase “in-game benefits such as rerolling dice or gain special characters and items.” Over 300 pounds of food was raised by the “Stockpile Food Drive” for a local food bank.

Greedy Designing
Over on boardgamegeek.com Richard Garfield wrote about designing Greedy Greedy Goblins. “This core gameplay appealed to me because a player who chooses to play slowly and be observant can often make better decisions about which cave to take ownership of than a player who just plays quickly at the expense of strategy or a better global awareness.”

Passing Go
According to Guinness World Records, the world’s largest board game was a Monopoly game built in the Netherlands in 2016.

Season of Giving
This was a great story from the holidays: over 250,000 children in need received new toys and from the Toy Industry Foundation’s Holiday Toy Drive. Kudos to Ceaco/Gamewright for donating nearly $3 million in games and puzzles.
