I hope everybody had good weekend of gaming. Although I didn’t get to game much, it’s fun living vicariously through my Twitter friends who post pictures of what they’re playing. Of course, this leads to items being added to my Must Buy List at a much faster rate, but that’s the danger of using the Internet, right?

Black Box Friday
AEG has launched a countdown to its annual Black Box release, which coincides with Black Friday next month. The Black Boxes of years past have typically contained several games, but this year’s promises to be a single title “for advanced gamers only.” Two cards are currently available for preview and their Facebook page promised more previews in the weeks ahead.

Victory in New Angeles
Fantasy Flight Games previewed the upcoming New Angeles, and its collaborative elements that “come into play on the heels of individual player goals. The principle that drives the game forward isn’t the cooperation between corporations as they attempt to maintain order within their city. The game is driven by each corp’s pursuit of profit. Specifically, each player wants to end up richer than one of the others.”

At the Crossroads
Designer Vangelis Bagiartakis recently shared some thoughts on creating the Dice City expansion, Crossroads. “I decided to go into that territory and start playing a little bit more with the spatial aspect of the players’ boards. … What was very important was to give each card type a good column-related ability that helps with its strategy.”

Pentagon Gaming
An in-house board game was developed by the Army and has been used by Department of Defense officials. The Center for Army Analysis Wargaming Analysis Model, C-WAM, has dice and outcome tables and is used ”to spot the flaws in battle plans before crunching the numbers with modern computing. Just as manned aircraft and drones can team to form a highly effective partnership, computer models linked to board games can bring out the best qualities of both.”
