I didn’t get to game much this weekend, but I did enjoy a little baseball.
Catan on the Big Screen
Sony Pictures is acquiring the rights to bring Catan to the big screen. According to Variety, “The studio is fast-tracking the project toward production with the goal of launching a possible franchise.”

Replicant Deduction
Blade Runner 2049: Nexus Protocol, a deduction game from WizKids, will be out this January. According to the ACD Distribution blog, “[D]etectives, citizens, and Deckard compete to figure out who is a replicant posing as a human. They know that one of them is a replicant, and not even the replicant knows who.”

Changing Axis & Allies
Over on Geek & Sundry designer Mike Selinker talked about redesigning the classic Axis & Allies. “No other change had as big an impact on the game as adding an extra point of defense to the armor unit. Suddenly, the infantry-pileup strategy that dominated the center of the board freed up and the game started to rocket forward.”

AEG discussed the process of creating The Masters’ Trials, their cooperative dice placement game that will be released next month. “[S]ince each character plays differently, why not make the solo experience different for each of the characters? Indeed, this is what you will be getting when the game is released. 4 different ways to play the game solo. Each character has their own setup, their own special rules and a different win condition.”

Tokyo-based craftsman Mitsuo Yamamoto has created Me-ga-te, a game that can be played regardless of . “[H]e sought to make a game whereby players can work out what is happening just by touching the pieces and the surface of the board, so that people can compete whether they can see or not.”
