Friends, I’ll be at L.A.’s biggest gaming convention, Gateway, this weekend. Let’s play a game!
Based on the highly regarded bag-builder Orleans, Orleans Stories uses the original’s mechanisms to produce a storytelling experience for players. According to BGG, “[I]nstead of focusing on the city of Orléans and trade with the surrounding villages, player are now settling the Loire Valley. Players must farm and produce, found villages, and build fortresses and churches. They will experience times of prosperity and success, but also times of deprivation.”
Clank! Legacy Delayed
Manufacturing delays have pushed back the release of Clank! Legacy: Acquisitions Incorporated to November. However, Dire Wolf announced that limited quantities will be available at PAX West.
New Pandemic Category
On its website, Z-Man Games announced a new category of games in its catalog. “Going forward, games whose foundations are rooted in Pandemic’s gameplay will be known as Pandemic System games. We want players to know that the engine under the hood is based on Matt Leacock’s award-winning co-op mechanics, while the setting—be it historical or fantastical—allows us to adapt gameplay to create a more nuanced, thematic experience.”
Rising Sun Comic Book
IDW announced that it will be releasing a three-issue miniseries based on CMON’s board game Rising Sun. “IDW’s Rising Sun storyline introduces Chiyoko of the Koi Clan, leader of a group of powerful warriors – the best each clan has to offer – on a mission to save Japan from dragons and monsters. But perhaps the greatest threat she faces is not the many monsters who are ravaging the country… but her very own team.”
Hasbro Going Greener
Hasbro released a statement about its efforts to go greener. “[B]eginning in 2020, it plans to begin phasing out plastic from new product packaging, including plastic elements like polybags, elastic bands, shrink wrap, window sheets and blister packs. The company’s ambition is to eliminate virtually all plastic in packaging for new products by the end of 2022.”
Retro Video Games on the Tabletop
According to Dice Tower News, “Konami has reached licensing agreements for boardgames to be developed based on two of their iconic video game titles: Contra and Bomberman.”
Comic Book Publishers Wary of Board Games
Interesting piece in Publishers Weekly about comic book companies being wary of entering the board game business. “[E]ven the most prodigious IP has its limitations. The board game space is not only fractured but its flooded with products, an observation that paces Oni [Press] and other publishers.”
