More Browncoats
Gale Force 9 will preview a new Firefly game at GecCon50 for release later this year.  Firefly Adventures: Brigands and Browncoats is a tactical miniatures cooperative game where players take on the unique roles of the crew to complete jobs…which always end up a bit messy.  The game includes twenty miniatures (including relaxed and action sculpts for each character) and 3D buildings to create terrain.

Better give 110%
WizKids releases Dungeon Hustle, a unique and light take on the old dungeon crawl. Taking on archetypal characters like clerics or fighters or rouges, players race through a dungeon of cards across patterns of similar color until they can’t and then stop, picking up all the cards they traversed to collect gold and items and fight monsters.

Are you ready for some football
Moving away from fantasy, Bombshell Games’ Techno Bowl is now available. Voted the most anticipated sports game of 2017 on BGG, the 8-bit inspired NFL-tongue-in-cheek homage casts players as team coaches “matriculating the ball down the field.” With is whimsy, tactics, multiple play variations, customization, and constant play action, this could be the football sim you are looking for. You’ll at least want to check out the MFL equivalent to your favorite team!

Kickstarter and tabletop games
Great analysis (both collection and presentation of data) on video and board games through the crowdfunding site.  The number and success rate of video game projects is relatively stable, although there are more and more campaigns raising larger chunks of money.  However, tabletop games are going “bonkers.”  The number and success rate continues to grow strong and steady.  Just in the first half of 2017, there were 1,538 projects of which 957 funded (62% – a 4% increase over the previous two half years) and accounted for a total of $69,765,251 in pledges. (I believe $69 million went to CMON???). Indeed tabletop games remain one of the rare categories that has seen such growth and account for 24% of all successfully raised revenues.

I have lots of kids. Board games help me connect with them, while still retaining my sanity...relatively speaking.
