The Village Square: July 1, 2019

Friends, I’ve been streaming live on Instagram lately. Join me and my friends as we discuss what games we’ve played recently and lots more. Follow me on Instagram here.

Harry Potter: Death Eaters Rising
The Op (USAopoly) announced its latest Harry Potter-themed game, Death Eaters Rising. Much like its Avengers dice-based cooperative game, Death Eaters Rising will challenge players to work together “to fight against the growing threat of the Dark Lord. Starting with either Harry Potter or Hermione Granger representing Dumbledore’s Army, Minerva McGonagall or Albus Dumbledore™ from Hogwarts, or Nymphadora Tonks or Sirius Black from the Order of the Phoenix, players will be able to rally a variety of year-5 characters to their cause.”

Ticket To Ride: The Game Show
Over on BGG W. Eric Martin wrote about Asmodee’s plans to turn Ticket to Ride into a The Amazing Race-style TV show. “The television adaptation will be a winner-take-all travel competition series in which five teams take the journey of a lifetime as they seek to complete epic challenges and rack up the most miles by air, land and sea.”

Blue Orange Releases
According to Dice Tower News, Blue Orange has four new games coming out soon: Detective Club, Papi Winchester, Dragon Market, and Kingdomino Duel, “a new roll and write for 2 players based on Kingdomino, the 2017 Spiel des Jahres winner.”

Spark of Hope
Fantasy Flight Games announced the newest boosters for Star Wars: Destiny. “Spark of Hope continues the themes introduced in Convergence, including an emphasis on subtypes that put Jedi and apprentices on the center stage of conflict for Blue heroes.”

The Walking Dead: Call to Arms
From comes news that Mantic Games is releasing The Walking Dead: Call to Arms, a miniatures game based on the comic book series, next month. “Call to Arms uses the same core dice mechanic as the earlier All Out War, but introduces a number of new gameplay elements to reflect the shift in focus.  In Call to Arms, the survivors are assumed to have learned ways to deal with the walking dead, so they play a reduced role in the game unless the survivors attract a ‘herd’ of undead.”

Gulf, Mobile and Ohio
Rio Grande Games is partnering with Winsome Games; their first collaboration will be designer Eddie Robbins’ Gulf, Mobile and Ohio.

History of AEG
AEG’s John Zinser continued his blog series, this time recalling the early days of the company: “[W]e had a GAMA tradeshow to attend in Atlantic City.  Cash poor, absolutely no trade show experience, no booth. Dave Seay, Ryan and I flew to the East Coast with a box of freshly printed Shadowlands flyers and a few boxes of demo decks.”

Ted Alspach on Silver
Board Game Babylon recently interviewed Ted Alspach about his new card-shedding game Silver. “We are so excited about this one, we’ve been working on it for two years and we are finally launching it here at Gen Con (2019). Silver is a surprisingly interactive hand management card shedding game.”
