Spiel des Jhares winner announced!
If you haven’t seen it already, it’s official! Kingdomino, from Bruno Cathala and published by Blue Orange Games, has grabbed the coveted and lucrative award as Game of the Year. Grabbing the Kennerspiel des Jahres (roughly speaking connoisseur’s game of the year) is EXIT: The Game (our review), by Inka and Markus Brand and published by KOSMOS. Last month Ice Cool (our review), by Brian Gomez and Brain Games, took the children’s category Kinderspiel des Jahres.

How does your forest grow?
Blue Orange Games will release the extremely intriguing Photosynthesis at GenCon 50. The 3D design of forests and trees tasks players with strategically planting and cultivating trees. Don’t get “shade” thrown on you, because the way to earn points is getting your trees’ leaves to collect energy from the sun!

Got Smash Up?
Apparently AEG’s fan submitted factions expansion was enough of a success that the publisher is asking us to hit them, baby, one more time. Have a great idea for a faction to the smash hit Peterson design? Or was your last submission rejected and you want to try again?

A Designer Shoutout
Speaking of the Spiel des Jahres, one Bruno – Faidutti, from his blog – gives a shoutout to another – Cathala, recipient of the coveted SdJ for Kingdomino. Both are great friends, co-designers and ardent believers in teamwork design. This is a fun “tribute.”
