The Village Square: July 9, 2018

How are you doing on your 10×10 board game challenge? I’m on pace to complete mine before the end of the year, but I’ve already completed my 5×5 solo challenge.

Samurai Jack
Dice Tower News reports that USAopoly is producing a board game based on the Adult Swim series Samurai Jack. “The game is for 2-5 players, ages 13 and up, and is based on the fifth season of the series. … you will be able to ‘Accompany Samurai Jack on his quest to vanquish the Shape-shifting Master of Darkness, Aku.’”

The Castles of Burgundy Goes Digital
From David Neumann’s column on BGG comes news of The Castles of Burgundy being developed for digital platforms. Digidiced tweeted that the game would make its debut next year.

Digital Hardback
David Neumann also wrote about the release of Hardback on iOS and Android. “Hardback follows the basic premise of Paperback, making it a sequel (or prequel) of sorts. You build words with letter-bearing cards that earn you cash, allowing you to buy more cards and build better words and earn more cash. In other words, it’s a deck-building word game.”

CMON Releases
Four titles from CMON were announced for release this fall. According to, these include Reiner Knizia’s Blue Moon City (originally published by Fantasy Flight Games), Narcos: The Board Game (based on the Netflix crime series), The Grizzled Armistice Edition (featuring miniatures and ability to save games), and Railroad Ink (roll-and-write).

Arcane Wonders Releases
According to the ACD Distribution blog, two new releases hit retail shelves soon: Vikings Gone Wild: Master of Elements expansion (July 12) and Fruit Ninja – Combo Party (August 3).

Tabletop Gaming News reports that Cryptozoic is releasing the party game Wallet soon. “[P]layers compete to find money and an ID that will convince the cops of their innocence. The game is played using an actual wallet with multiple pockets and zippered areas that allow players both to take game cards and put them back, as they try to improve their own chances at victory and lead their opponents into traps.”

Slave I Preview
Fantasy Flight Games previewed Boba Fett’s ship Slave I for the new edition of X-Wing Miniatures that’ll be released September 13th. “In the Slave I Expansion Pack, you’ll find a fully assembled and pre-painted Firespray-class patrol craft miniature, as well as all the components you need to seamlessly incorporate one of these highly customizable ships into your Scum squadron, including six unique pilots and twelve upgrade cards to outfit your ships as you see fit.”

War Chest Diary
Brigette Indelicato, Project Art Director for AEG’s upcoming War Chest, wrote about what went into the graphic design of the game. “One of the main challenges was designing the 14 unique unit icons – they needed to be simple and clean enough that they would work well on the unit token and as an icon on the cards.”
