The Village Square: March 25, 2019

Old school is back
Next month Steve Jackson Games is releasing a new edition of old school style dungeon-crawling role-playing game, The Fantasy Trip, out of print for 40 years! The Legacy Edition boxed set includes the original Melee (for fighter combat) and Wizard (for magical combat) along with maps, counters, dice, tiles, screens, tables and plenty of other useful stuff!

Spread the word
Czech Games Editions announced Letter Jam for release in Summer 2019. The 2-6 player cooperative word game tasks players with building words via cards while you can’t see your own hand, ala Hanabi-style!

Jurasic Zoo
Ankama Board Games announced Draftasaurus will release in August 2019. Build your dino pens by drafting the best reptilian beasts amidst the whims of dice activated events.

Where to find them
Wizkids announced they will release Merlin’s Beast Hunt in August. Compete in a tournament to capture beasts with magic in this card and dice game.

Puzzle me this
Pandasaurus Games showed off Mental Blocks at GAMA. The future release is a cooperative puzzle game in which players try to complete a design with foam blocks…but each one only sees one perspective of the blueprint! Oh, and did I mention there’s a timing element? Oh, and did I mention you can even play with a traitor variant?!

Yeah, but is it a Christmas game?
The rebranded The OP announced in conjunction with FOX Consumer Products the release of a Die Hard board game this Spring. The Nakatomi Heist Board Game is an asymmetrical one-versus-many showdown in which one plays John McClane and the others thieves to foil his plans to stop them.

I have lots of kids. Board games help me connect with them, while still retaining my sanity...relatively speaking.
