The Village Square: May 14, 2018

A thief among us
Cryptozoic will release a DC comics version of the popular social deduction game, Spyfall, next month. In it most players take on the role of a popular super hero, yet one is secretly disguised as the Joker. The variant also tweaks the inspiration, like with the introduction of super power cards.

More DC
IDW Games announced Batman: The Animated Series – Gotham Under Siege to preview at Origins and release in August. The title is designed by Richard Launius and will be the first in a series of titles based on the animated show.

New Ascension
Stoneblade Entertainment will release Delirium on June 18, the newest expansion to its popular ongoing Ascension deck-building design. Battle to restore order against wild nightmare creatures that escaped through the Dreamscape portal.

Laying down the city
Next month Pandasaurus Games will release a new tile-laying city-building game, Minerva. Set in the Holy Roman Empire, you are tasked with not only erecting impressive awe-inspiring structures, but practical ones to attract citizens. You know, like houses!

More high seas mayhem
The Viking setting sails strong in board games, yet again, with Iello’s release of Raids late in June. Contest areas against fellow voyagers and earn the most glory with a bit of tile-laying, brinkmanship vying and set collecting.

Return to Cacao
Z-Man Games announced Diamante, a second expansion to Cacao. It includes four new modules – the Gem Mine, the Tree of Life, the Emperor and the New Workers – to be mixed and matched as desired with the base game and the first expansion Chocolatl.

The undead
Battle the army of the undead in Darkness Falls, the latest expansion campaign to Ares Games’ Sword and Sorcery. It releases in August.

Strong summer
Stronghold Games has announced their upcoming Summer releases including roll-and-write pick up and deliver design SteamRollers; speed recognition card game Whoosh: Bounty Hunters; push your luck design Gold Fever; Artipia Games’ Kitchen Rush; card shedding game Nimble; and the unique drafting game Paper Tales.

Dropping Names
James Mathe of Minion Games is a recognized name for industry consulting, but alas he’s getting away from that sort of thing. Don’t worry, though! If you’re looking for tips, advice, help and consultants to help your board game company grow, he’s created this excellent guide of sources within the hobby.

Was it in the cards?
Parent private equity company Eurazeo is putting board game publishing giant Asmodee up for sale.

I have lots of kids. Board games help me connect with them, while still retaining my sanity...relatively speaking.
