The Village Square: October 22, 2018

Steeled for the long haul
In November, CMON will release the Armistice Edition of popular challenging cooperative game The Grizzled. The new edition takes players through a campaign starting with boot camp and on through nine different missions, with results in one affecting play in the following missions. And it comes with neat pre-painted minis, replacing the former game’s standees.

It’s a festival
Pandasaurus Games announced they will release Mebo’s Portuguese festival game Arraial at Essen and in the States early next year. The family friendly design is a fast, Tetris style, tile-laying game.

Where the tiles roam
Z-Man Games announced Carcassonne: Safari to release later this year. What are animals from the African Savannah doing in France? Well, it’s a new twist on the evergreen tile-laying design!

Life of a patrician
New Ravensburger and Stefan Feld release Carpe Diem will hit U.S. shelves in November. Seize the day by making your villa more impressive than the Jones’ (or their Roman counterparts) by building fish ponds and servant quarters. Yeah, that’s right!

Blowing around
Arcane Wonders announced Onitama: Way of the Wind will release in mid-November. The expansion to the two-player abstract designs adds the wind spirit which is impassable and cannot by affected by players, but will move about the board affecting them, anyway!

I Robot Revolutionary
Next month Atlas Games will release Cogs and Commissars, a highly contentious, take-that, drafting card game of robotic insurrection. Amass your people’s army of various classes to foment revolution!

Sneak peek

Big and little little expansion
Upper Deck will release Ant Man, a mini expansion to Legendary next month. It features the titular character, The Wasp, and new heroes, villains, schemes and masterminds to jump into the size-changing microverse!

Colonizing North American shelves
Lucky Duck Games announced it will distribute Ganymede this side of the Pond. The Splendor style game of space colonization is originally from Sorry We Are French.

Start thinking of your escape now

I have lots of kids. Board games help me connect with them, while still retaining my sanity...relatively speaking.
