The Village Square: October 26, 2017

Fantasy Flight Interactive
The top flight board games publisher is going digital!  Well, it’s already been that before, but Fantasy Flight Interactive hopes to push new bounds, not just adapting board games but creating fresh new experiences based on the company’s most loved brands.

There be dragons! I hope.
Next February, Iello will release Fairy Tile. In addition to its really cool name, the design involves tile-laying and storybook adventure with miniatures.

To the market
Co-published with, Renegade Game Studios will release Byzanz to the North American market in early 2018, a game that so happens to also be about markets – bidding for, buying, collecting and selling goods.

Cryptozoic will release the 2-player cooperative Teen Titans Go! Deck-Building Game in the fourth quarter 2017.

I am gamer, hear me roar!
IDW has announced they will release Roar! King of the Pride in March 2018. From the designer of Sagrada, the worker placement design is about players managing their pride of jungle beasts to control territory in Africa.

Titans of gaming
The next two releases in Calliope Games’ Titans Series will hit next month. Shutterbug, from Mike Elliot, is a clue and deduction game tasking players with capturing mysterious creatures…on film.  Capital City, from James Ernest, puts players in the role of building up an Old West town by bidding for workers and assigning them to purchased buildings for money and points.

The Serious Play Conference is now seeking submissions for the International Serious Games award to recognize outstanding tabletop and digital titles used for learning or training. Submissions are due by January 15.

And for something a little different…
Humans Being is now available. In this unique, Charades-esque card game of improv players from two teams take suggestions, draw secret challenge cards, and act them out while the others guess.

I have lots of kids. Board games help me connect with them, while still retaining my sanity...relatively speaking.
