Resisting Expansions Is Futile
In what came as some of the best gaming news of the week, I learned that The Resistance will soon be getting a full expansion treatment from Indie Boards & Cards. The details at this point are hazy (and mostly just referenced in buried threads on Board Game Geek), but it seems the expansion will add more mechanics and not just more plot cards. According to Indie Boards & Cards, this expansion will be going up on Kickstarter in the near future. (If this news means nothing to you, by all means, read our review of The Resistance and then go buy a copy–you won’t regret it.) (HT: Theology of Games)
Village Has Arrived in North America
Publisher Tasty Minstrel Games long ago announced its agreement to co-publish the Kennerspiel des Jahres-winning Village in North America, but it has just announced that the wait is over. Tasty Minstrel is selling Village directly for a limited time, and at a discounted price ($39.95 shipped). However, quantities are extremely limited, so interested parties might want to press the “buy” button quickly.
Richard Garfield Talks Android: Netrunner
I have played many, many CCGs in my day, so it’s surprising to me that I missed the original Netrunner completely. Thankfully, Fantasy Flight Games, the big dog in terms of complex rules, lots of expansions, and top-quality reprints, is ensuring that I don’t miss out again. Fantasy Flight interviewed Richard Garfield about their development of the classic CCG. It’s an interesting read, even if you don’t know much about the original game.
Fantasy Flight Games Previews X-WingFantasy Flight Games had a demo at last year’s GenCon of its new miniatures game set in the Star Wars universe, X-Wing. That initial announcement seems like a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away (…), but the game has an announced date of “summer 2012,” and it seems reasonable that the game should be available at GenCon. Those fortunate souls who are able to attend () can lay your greedy Imperial or Rebel mitts on a copy come August. Here’s a link to the recently posted “Making of X-Wing” article from Fantasy Flight.
Kickstarters of Note
Here are some live Kickstarter (well, not strictly) campaigns that are noteworthy to me this week:
- Pirate Dice: Still going, and the campaign has hit a treasure trove of a stretch reward. $45 seems reasonable for all the booty.
- Sheepdogs of Pendleton Hill: This one looks kind of neat, but seems very expensive for as light as it looks. Still, interested parties will be a better gauge of its price of $50-60, depending on if you’re an early bird.
- Among the Stars: This one looks interesting, albeit expensive. Lots of cool extras have been unlocked for this 7-Wonders-meets-Carcassonne-IN-SPACE game. $55
Completely Unrelated Awesomeness of the Week
Last week was a tough (and busy) week at work, which meant that I was feeling down for a good deal of it. How do I give myself a pep talk? you may wonder. Well, wonder no longer! This is one of my favorite pep talks recorded on film. I occasionally give it to others as needed. (Also, my family had that bowl when I was growing up.)
