The Village Square: November 4, 2019

Has everyone recovered from SPIEL? I didn’t go, yet somehow caught a case of con crud this week. Ugh. On to the news …

Marco Polo II
A new standalone sequel to Marco Polo, Marco Polo II: In the Service of the Khan, is now available for pre-order on the Z-Man Games website. “Along with new components, contracts, and actions come a whole new cast of characters whose special abilities will help you get ahead in your mercantile endeavors.”

Small World of Warcraft
Over on W. Eric Martin’s BGG blog, he reports on the news of Blizzard re-skinning the classic Small World with World of Warcraft.

One Bird to Rule Them All
According to a WBUR segment, Wingspan is now the best-selling board game of this year.

King of Tokyo Dark Edition
Iello announced King of Tokyo Dark Edition will be out in the first quarter of 2020. According to the website, this edition features upgraded components and a new mechanism, and Iello is only doing one print run.

Marvel Champions
Now available from Fantasy Flight Games is Marvel Champion: The Card Game. This cooperative Living Card Game for 1-4 players has “players taking on the roles of the iconic heroes of the Marvel Universe as they try to stop infamous villains from enacting their devious schemes” and includes “over 350 cards, 100 tokens, five hit point trackers, and more.”

New Starter Set for A Song of Fire and Ice
CMON will be releasing a new starter set for A Song of Fire and Ice: Tabletop Miniatures Game on November 15th. This starter set features the Baratheons and in keeping with the source material, “Something that sets House Baratheon apart from others is the severe infighting between the House’s two leaders, brothers Stannis and Renley. Other members of the house have had to declare their support for one or the others. This comes into account in the Loyalty special rules.”

The Queen’s Collection
According to Dice Tower News, Queen Games is publishing The Queen’s Collection, a game celebrating the company’s 30th anniversary. “How’s this for a meta concept – A game to celebrate a publisher’s history of games where players are sorting the pieces to another gamer’s collection?”
