The Village Square: December 1, 2016

December is now upon us and I can’t decide if the year has flown by or if it’s zoomed by. Either way, it’s definitely in the Millennium-Falcon-on-the-Kessel-Run speed range.

Mountains of Madness
IELLO released its first image of Mountains of Madness, a game based on the H.P. Lovecraft nobel and created by Rob Daviau, with illustrations by Miguel Coimbra. It is scheduled for a late 2017 release.

Space Goat Productions announced it will be producing The Terminator: The Official Board Game and will launch on Kickstarter in February. One of the screenwriters of the original film, William Wisher, is a consultant on the game, which is “an asymmetrical strategy game played across two boards – one in 1984 and one in 2029. One player takes control of all the forces of the machines: Hunter Killer flying machines, Terminator endoskeletons , and new robots based on the classic 80s aesthetic. The rest of the players take the role of the human resistance, struggling against the impossible odds of the machine uprising.”

Mine All Mines
Mine All Mines from IDW “puts you in control of a clan of dwarves who you’ll send deep into the mountain to mine for precious minerals. Each round you’ll go deeper into the mines to reap bigger rewards, benefiting off the work of the players who’ve gone before you.” ACD Distribution expects it to hit the streets on February 15th.

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles Expansions
According to, AEG will release expansions for three of their games (Planes, Trains, and Automobiles) in one combination box. “Each game will benefit from one expansion in the box. Trains will get a new expansion called Coastal Tides, which promises new cards and three new boards, including two designed with two-player games specifically in mind. Planes will get the Round Trip expansion, which will add new tokens and cards on top of a pair of new game boards. Lastly, Automobiles will receive a new expansion titled Racing Season, which will introduce new cards and three new tracks, on top of new rules for running an entire racing season.” The box will be available in the first quarter of 2017.

Jamaica Expansion
Also from comes news of Jamaica: The Crew, the first expansion for Jamaica. The expansion will be out in Spring 2017 and it “adds new ship mates to the mix which players may spend gold to hire in order to then benefit from their different abilities. Crew are loaded onto ships just like any other good, meaning that by bringing aboard more crew players must give up space they might otherwise fill with other valuables and thus points at the end of the game.”

Asmodee announced Kharnage, a “fast-paced, tactical card game for two to four players that puts you and your opponents in command of massive fantasy armies.” It will released in the first quarter of 2017.

Beyond the Threshold
The first expansion for Mansions of Madness 2nd edition, Beyond the Threshold, will be out early next year. According to Fantasy Flight Games, “With a pair of investigators new to Mansions, four Thralls that may take the place of those you thought you knew, and a collection of six double-sided map tiles, Beyond the Threshold is full of new ways to experience the game.”

Splendor Tease
Space Cowboys recently teased a possible Splendor expansion with a photo on Facebook.

Night Watch
Joe Habes discussed the Night Watch in Fantasy Flight Games’ A Game of Thrones: The Card Game, especially The Wall and Master Aemon: “[T]his is my primary deck and I’ve probably played it with at least 90% of the available plots at one time or another.”

Kickstarter Reality Check
Part Three of a series on how a game was funded for over $120,000 on Kickstarter, then took “440 days of work after creating the product and running the Kickstarter before we made $1.”
