Board Game Art Representation
This is something all gamers should be aware of: Erin Ryan at Cardboard Republic recently published an excellent article on gender representation in board game art. While “You are more likely to see a sheep on the cover of a board game box than you are to see a group of women,” the tide appears to be turning in terms of better representation.

Crash Landing
A new expansion for Boss Monster, Crash Landing, promises that it “does more than introduce new cards into the game, it also changes the rules. Now, in a 5-6 player game, players don’t lose when they hit 5 Wounds. Instead, all players stay in the entire game, and the winner is the player with the highest total Souls minus Wounds.”

Risky Living
Time Magazine interviewed Matt Leacock, who talks about Pandemic, Kickstarter, and the difficulty of making a living from board games. “I think it’s similar to trying to make a living as a writer. There’s a number of writers who do quite well, but then there’s a long tail of writers who have a hard time cracking in, paying the bills.”

The Greedo Villain Pack for Imperial Assault can now be pre-ordered from Fantasy Flight Games. Obviously, he’s slow on the draw, but “The Greedo Villain Pack also offers a new three-card Agenda set, Contract Gunmen, that you can use to gain the advantage as the Imperial player in an Imperial Assault campaign.”

War of Shadows
Ascension X: War of Shadows can now be pre-ordered. The standalone game for 1-4 players can also be used with other Ascension games (up to 6 players). It features “New dual-cost Heroes and Constructs require players to use both resources to acquire them, but have incredible power … As the balance between Light and Dark shifts, cards gain additional powers depending on whether it’s Night or Day.”
