The Village Square: November 10, 2016

Last night I got together with my regular group of gaming buddies to roll dice, flip cards, and have a few laughs. This news column is dedicated to them: thanks for helping me deal with my Election Day Hangover.

Slice of Pizza
Bezier Games is releasing New York Slice this January. According to ACD Distribution, “each player slices pizzas into portions, giving your opponents first choice, with you getting the leftovers. There are a dozen kinds of pizza to work with, from Veggie to Hawaiian to Meat Lover’s, and each player decides if they want to eat or keep some of the slices, building the best collection of pizzas possible.”

Digital from Analog
King Art Games is producing a real-time strategy video game based in the Scythe universe. Dice Tower News states that “Not much has been mentioned other than the style and setting of the game, but they do promise ‘a dynamic storyline and open, sandbox-style levels.’”

Fantasy Flight Games previewed the upcoming XCOM expansion, Evolution. “The Evolution expansion changes the face of your war by forcing you to fight on two fronts: against the alien invasion and the sinister, secretive organization known as EXALT. Although your powers and technologies have grown, the obstacles arrayed against you have also been strengthened.“

Digital Mysterium
According to David Neumann’s blog the Mysterium app will arrive next month for iOS, Android, and Steam. “Players well-versed in Mysterium’s secrets can rest assured that Asmodee Digital and Libellud have included exclusive features for the digital version of Mysterium! At launch, players will be able to discover the story of the first original psychic; the stories of the 5 other psychics will be released later as free updates.”

Humble Bundle
Humble Bundle is offering digital board games to support charity. A bundle of Carcassonne, Scotland Yard, Ticket to Ride, San Juan, Galaxy Trucker, Splendor, Catan, and more games to be announced are available at a discounted price.

Voting Game
The Mechanics & Meeples crew discussing voting as a game mechanism. “Voting games can be very dense, but they’re woefully underused in the eurogame world right now.”

Wal-Mart Munchkin
Steve Jackson Games announced a Wal-Mart exclusive gold-foil edition of Munchkin that contains the mini-booster Munchkin Dragons: Four More. “ The pack includes the Level 4 Gummy Wyrm, which neutralizes your Footgear when it oozes all over the floor. There’s also Poof, the other magic dragon, who’s stronger if you’re a Wizard.”
