Cool Munchkin Or Not

Thrawn Joins Armada
2016 World Champion Josiah Burkhardsmeier discusses his involvement with the creation of General Admiral Thrawn in the Fantasy Flight Games’ Chimaera expansion pack for Star Wars: Armada. “The ability had to feel like Thrawn. It needed to require strategic foresight and reward the ability to plan for the future. Thrawn’s ability to coordinate his forces meant his game ability needed to be fleet-wide. The fact that Thrawn could take whatever forces he was given and use them to maximum effectiveness meant his ability needed to work for all fleet type.”

Doppleganger
Wizkids will release Doppleganger next May, according to Dice Tower News. The 4-8 player game will have players “working together to find three Artifacts of Light. Things are never easy for an adventuring party, and in this case one or more of the players are hidden-traitor dopplegangers, trying to stop the party from finding three artifacts.”

Diary of an Escape Room Werewolf
Designers Ariel Rubin and Juliana Patel share their thoughts on designing Escape Room In A Box: The Werewolf Experiment, a “60-90 minute cooperative game in which 2-8 players solve puzzles, crack codes, and find hidden clues to thwart a mad scientist’s plot to turn them into werewolves.”

The Decline of Racing
Bruno Faidutti talks about the unpopularity of racing games. “Eurogames emphasize resource management, while ameritrash ones emphasize violent interaction. These two schools are not as separate as they were, the most praised recent games usually being sophisticated hybrids. These hybrids mix war and management, with usually no place for the good old race.”
