The Village Square: September 8, 2016

A happy 50th anniversary to Star Trek and may all of its fans live long and prosper.

New from Portal
Two new releases from Portal Games are due at Essen Spiel. First, Robinson Crusoe, an “all new English edition featuring: custom wooden pieces, thick cardboard character cards, over 450 edits on the cards to improve clarity, a standard sized square box, a 7th scenario, and an all-new English rulebook.” Also, Death Breath is “an all new army for Neuroshima Hex 3.0 designed by Michał Oracz. The Death Breath is a terrifying virus which began spreading forth from the eastern enclaves of the Moloch. It infects every living thing, changing them into brainless, bloodthirsty beasts.”

Ascendancy Expansions
ACD Distribution announced a November release for the first player expansions for Star Trek Ascendancy: Cardassian Union and Ferengi Alliance.

Deus Egypt
Asmodee previews Deus Egypt, the first expansion for Deus. “This expansion adds the wonders of the ancient Egyptian pharaohs to this rich strategy game with six completely new decks of buildings to be used with the base game.”

Arkham Horror: The Card Game
Fantasy Flight Games previews Arkham Horror: The Card Game, which “allows you to “level up” your deck over the course of a campaign. When you consult the campaign log after an adventure to learn what’s going to happen as the result of your investigations, you’ll also learn how much experience you and your fellow investigators earn for your efforts. You can then use this experience to access cards at levels greater than zero, swapping them into your deck for other cards.”

More Zombies
Zpocalypse 2 will reach the shelves next Spring. According to Dice Tower News, it “is a tower defense type board game where each person is controlling a group of survivors outfitted with weapons, food, and various items.”

Legendary Expansion
Also from our friends at Dice Tower News comes the announcement that the first Legendary Encounters: Alien will hit the stores this month. “It will have 400 cards with original art, many of those cards will be legions of new Alien cards including more face huggers and more Alien queens.”

Guess the NBA
This was a fun: girlfriend gave her boyfriend a homemade Guess Who? Game featuring today’s NBA stars.

Interesting piece on collaborative games being used as a brainstorming tool. “When we used games in our creative process, we did our best work, were most productive, had the most fun, and got the most out of it.”
