Days of Wonder at Essen
The Days of Wonder booth at Essen will be showcasing two of its newest games, Deep Blue and Ticket to Ride: Japan. According to the Days of Wonder website, Deep Blue is a “push-your-luck and engine-building family game where players dive for wealth and may join and benefit from other players diving fortunes” while “the [Ticket to Ride] Japan board offers some cooperative gameplay, players face a new dilemma.”

Gateway Gloomhaven
Designer Isaac Childres wrote about the upcoming mass-market version of Gloomhaven: “So what exactly is being removed/changed to get the price and box size down to reasonable levels? Well, the scenario book has roughly 24 scenarios in it instead of the massive 95 of the original game. And since it would be impossible to cut those 95 down to 24, and because it is more fun the other way, I created an entirely new campaign.”

Medici Roll & Write
Grail Games announced a roll-and-write version of the classic Reiner Knizia game, Medici. This is the third iteration of Medici, following the original and the card game. “Fast to learn and simple to play, Medici: The Dice Game is a dice-drafting, roll-and-write game. Over the course of three rounds, 2-4 players will fill their ships with the goods presented at the wharf. They will earn money for having the most valued loads, as well as for collecting majorities of the different goods.”

Cooper Island
From the ACD Distribution blog comes news of the November release of Cooper Island. “The special thing about Cooper Island is the way the players mark their victory points. They take small ship markers around the island to show their progress. On their way around the island, they find smaller islands inshore that grant valuable benefits.”

Iranian Publishers Denied Visas
W. Eric Martin of BGG wrote about the denial of German visas to two Iranian game publishers. “[R]epresentatives from those companies had decided to take preorders for whatever people were willing to buy, then pay for extra luggage to get those games into the hands of those curious about their publications. Turns out that was only the beginning of their troubles.”

Machete in Zombicide?
I didn’t know I needed Danny Trejo in the second edition of Zombicide until I saw the trailer. According to the Kickstarter currently being run by CMON, “Not only you get Danny Trejo as a Survivor, but you also get him as a Walker and a hulking Abomination! This set is a Kickstarter Exclusive, that may also be available in limited quantities at special conventions.”
