The Village Square: August 10, 2017

Certainly not a waste
Fantasy Flight Games will release Fallout later this year.  The post-nuclear adventure board game is exactly what it sounds like – it’s based on Bethesda’s blockbuster video game series. This preview article has all the inside hot takes you want from what will no doubt be a hotly anticipated title.

In more hotly anticipated news
Pre-orders are now open at Ares Games for Warriors of Middle Earth: Limited Edition. You have until August 21. It is the second expansion to War of the Ring Second Edition and adds all new factions with their own pre-painted miniatures and other high quality components.

Big shoes to fill
Z-Man Games announced Terra Mystica’s “spiritual successor” Gaia Project, to release “very soon.” Commanding one of fourteen unique factions new to space travel, you will explore, build, develop and advance to tame the stars. With a modular board and numerous options for play and development, fans of Terra Mystica (same designers, artist and publisher) should be heaven bound!

More big news from the Z-Man
The publisher will release an updated version of Reiner Knizia’s classic Euro game, Through the Desert. With update art and snazier componets, the news can put all gamers’ hearts at rest – it will still include the pastel camels.

More of the same
It seems like a lot of big news lately involves expansions to and reprints of previous titles and here’s another – Dominion: Nocturne. The big box expansion is the hit deck-building game’s 11th total and will add a new mechanic – Night cards to be played after the Buy phase. There are now Heirlooms which replace starting Coppers, and also Fate and Doom cards that provide Boons and inflict Hexes!

Just in the nick of…
Time Barons. WizKids releases this fast-paced combat card game this fall. Use the people of bygone eras as pawns in your battle against 1 to 3 other chronological traveling enemies to rule none other than the human race!

All the T.I.M.E. Stories in the world
Asmodee will release Estrella Drive, a new T.I.M.E. Stories expansion, later in the fourth quarter 2017. The sixth addition sends travelers way back…to 1982 Hollywood. And a haunted mansion!

Evil is as evil does
Next month Greenbriar Games will release Folklore: The Affliction.  The adventure game plays 1 to 5 players, as you control a unique character traipsing through and growing in the world of Folklore while on a mission to save the land from a foul evil that plagues it.
